The Indian Premier League’s (IPL) Impact Player Rule has the support of Zaheer Khan, the new coach of the Lucknow Super Giants. Legendary players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have criticised the new regulation that the BCCI introduced in 2023. Five-time IPL champion Rohit Sharma has declared that he is “not a fan” of the regulation that limits an all-rounder’s development. Alternatively, Kohli stated that the regulation upsets the game’s equilibrium.
Meanwhile, Zaheer thinks that because the Impact Player Rule gives young, uncapped players opportunity, it is beneficial for Indian cricket. Genuine all-rounders, he said, are invariably valuable and unaffected by the norm; but, part-time all-rounders cannot claim the same fate. Additionally, he informed that all the teams will bear this in mind for the next big auction.
The significance of sub-rule has been discussed. I will state unequivocally that I support it. It has undoubtedly provided many untapped Indian talents with opportunity.
At a press conference, Zaheer stated, “This will become evident in the mega auction when teams start focussing on these players.”
It’s impossible to top the time spent throughout a match. That’s the main benefit. Nobody can stop you if you truly are an all-around player. The 45-year-old continued, “Your ability to bat and bowl will always bring value.
In the meanwhile, Gautam Gambhir left Lucknow, but the team trusted Justin Langer to take over as head coach in place of Andy Flower without making an announcement. Nevertheless, the club managed by KL Rahul was unable to make it to the playoffs, which caused them to add a former Indian player to the lineup. In addition to serving as the Mumbai Indians’ Director of Cricket and Head of Global Development, Zaheer has played for the RCB, MI, and DC in the past.

When Lucknow’s retentions are finally decided, he probably will be a major player. In the first week of September, BCCI is reportedly planning to make an announcement on the amount of retentions it would permit for the upcoming season as well as the use of RTM cards.
