The Hockey Hall of Famer Major Dhyan Chand was born on August 29. The day was designated as National Sports Day by the Indian government in 2012 to celebrate the legendary athlete and to draw attention to the value of both sports and physical exercise for everyone. Considered by many to be “The Wizard of Hockey,” Dhyan Chand His birthday is August 29, 1905, and he played a key role in India’s three Olympic gold medal victories in 1928, 1932, and 1936.
The fact that the legend played 185 games for India and scored an incredible 400 goals demonstrates his skill with the hockey stick. His hockey career began in 1926, and it ended in 1948 after 32 years on the ice.
The President of India not only hosts activities to commemorate the day, but also presents the National Sports Awards, which include the esteemed Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, Arjuna Award, Dronacharya Award, and Major Dhyan Chand Award.
India celebrates National Sports Day with a theme each year; the subject for 2019 has not yet been revealed. Nonetheless, “Sports for Unity” is emphasised by the University Grant Commission. The topic for the previous year was “Sports as a catalyst for a fit and inclusive society.
