The Manchester Originals looked ready to take charge and defeat the Trent Rockets with them comfortably in the run-chase until Pakistani all-rounder Imad Wasim struck a brilliant piece in his 16th delivery of the spell. Imad dismissed bowling all-rounder Jamie Overton for a three-ball duck with a brilliant seed that outwitted him.
As he tried to play it, Overton was completely confused by an arm ball that sliced through his defences and slammed into the centre and leg stump. Overton’s unfortunate stroke as he was walking down the track completely missed the ball, demonstrating his total bewilderment. This put increased pressure on the home team with 27 needed off 18 deliveries.

After just two deliveries, Imad struck once more, this time putting the ball wide as Tom Hartley made an audacious advance but failed to try a return.
Tom Banton, the match’s highest scorer and a wicketkeeper-batter, quickly took the bails off. This caused the pressure to increase dramatically and up the drama factor in the scenario.
Once again, the left-arm spinner was brilliant for the Rockets, who needed 24 runs from the final three sets (15 balls) as Manchester could not keep up. It even came down to them needing six runs from the final set involving Max Holden and Sikandar Raza, who both had enough time at the wicket to lead the home team to victory. Nonetheless, Jordan Thompson performed a string of incredibly calm throws while being under extreme pressure. The visitors prevailed by a tight but thrilling one run thanks to his expertly timed final two deliveries, the 99th and 100th of the innings.

Interestingly, Rashid Khan bowled a dangerous delivery in the previous set before Imad’s breakthrough of two wickets, dismissing Paul Walter, who tried to sweep but missed completely. This was no ordinary dismissal; in his 438th innings, Rashid claimed his historic 600th T20 wicket.
