Mitchell Marsh, an all-arounder for Australia, said that Glenn Maxwell would be essential to the team during the eagerly anticipated ICC Cricket World Cup, which will begin on October 5 in India. At the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, the five-time champions will open their World Cup campaign against the hosts on October 8.
After Glenn Maxwell was instrumental in Australia’s victory over India in the third and final ODI in Rajkot, Marsh was all praise for him.
He claimed that Glenn Maxwell cast an exceptional spell, and that too following a little pause. Maxwell recorded outstanding final numbers of 4/40 as Australia cruised to a comfortable 66-run victory, preventing India from sweeping the series.
“That spell was fantastic. After not playing much cricket for the previous few months, he returned. It was wonderful to see him again. Maxi’s presence, enthusiasm, and ability to provide balance are what make the squad successful, Mitchell Marsh stated at the press conference.
Although Maxwell’s batting is unquestionably excellent, the 31-year-old went on to state that his ability with the ball and the options he would provide the squad with their all-rounders are vital for them going into the main event.
“We obviously know that his batting is absolutely class, but what he can do with the ball, and the options that he will give us with our all-rounders, is vital for us going into the World Cup,” he continued.
Regarding Maxwell’s participation in the World Cup, Mitchell Marsh said there may be wickets where he fills in as the third spinner during this competition.
In some matches during this World Cup, he might be the third spinner. But just the fact that we can field three quick bowlers, a spinner, and Maxi—who, on the right wicket, has the ability to bowl ten overs—gives us a lot of flexibility in terms of the teams we can field or the way our batting order can be set up, Marsh said.
