The 13th game of the BBL 2023–24 will take place on Saturday, December 23, at Bellerive Oval in Hobart, between the Hobart Hurricanes and Melbourne Renegades HUR vs REN. Hurricanes are currently in second-last place having lost both of their games thus far. Two of Renegades’ three games have ended in losses, and one match has ended in a draw.

After deciding to bat in the previous game against the Perth Scorchers, the Hobart Hurricanes had a difficult start. For just 47 runs in 7.4 overs, they lost half of their hitters. Individually, none of their batters could muster more than fifteen runs. But Nikhil Chaudhary and Mitchell Owen’s strong sixth-wicket partnership helped the Hurricanes score more than 100 runs.

Chris Jordan played a spectacular inning, scoring 59 runs off just 20 deliveries, including six fours and five sixes, giving the Hurricanes a huge lift. The Hurricanes scored 172 runs with the loss of eight wickets thanks to his outstanding performance. With four wickets for 25 runs in four overs, Jason Behrendorff was the most impressive bowler for the Scorchers.

The Scorchers suffered an early blow as they lost their first wicket for just 16 runs in the third over while chasing the target. But Zak Crawley and Aaron Hardie combined to win the game, so they were spared more injury. Crawley maintained his unblemished record with a strong 65 runs off 46 deliveries, and Hardie did the same with an outstanding 85 runs off 45 deliveries. Chris Jordan claimed the lone wicket for the Hurricanes, but the Scorchers won handily in 16.1 overs with nine wickets remaining.

After the Brisbane Heat won the toss and chose to bowl, the Melbourne Renegades were forced into a batting battle in the most recent encounter. With only one run scored in the second over, the Renegades sadly suffered an early blow, losing their first wicket. Jake Fraser-McGurk turned in a fantastic effort despite the early setback, finishing as the team’s leading scorer with a quick 55 runs off 23 deliveries. With 34 runs off of 24 deliveries and no losses, Jonathan Wells was a vital player.

Under the direction of Paul Walter, the Heat bowlers maintained pressure on the Renegades, preventing them from scoring more than 162 runs in 20 overs at the expense of eight wickets. In his four overs, Walter took three wickets for 27 runs, making him the Heat’s most effective bowler.

The Heat encountered some early difficulties in their chase of 163 runs, losing their first three wickets before reaching the 50-run threshold. Nevertheless, the ship was calmed by a strong partnership between Matt Renshaw and Sam Billings, who put on 72 runs for the fourth wicket. Renshaw carried on his contribution by partnering with Paul Walter for another 46 runs for the following wicket. The Brisbane Heat earned a well-earned victory thanks in large part to the contributions of these three hitters, who helped them reach the goal in 18.1 overs with six wickets remaining.
