As the game was coming to a close in the present IPL 2025 match between the Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at Mullanpur, Virat Kohli and captain Rajat Patidar had a heated dispute. After scoring a brilliant half-century, Kohli was eager to go for a double as RCB chased a target of 158. But a mistake in the fifteenth over almost resulted in a wicket.
Patidar paused, remaining at the non-striker’s end, as Kohli attempted to take off for a second run after drawing a delivery from Arshdeep Singh to deep midwicket. As a result, both batters were left stranded at the same end, and Kohli was frantically attempting to return. A run-out was nearly sparked by a poor throw by Shashank Singh and a missed direct hit by Shreyas Iyer.
Virat Kohli was clearly annoyed with Patidar.

The star batter relieved some of the pressure on the next ball by smashing a boundary over point despite the tense moment. To bring RCB closer to the target, he proceeded to hit a string of boundaries, including a six. Patidar’s time at the crease was regrettably brief. He was caught at long-on for just 12 runs after trying to hammer Yuzvendra Chahal.
But in the end, the visiting side prevailed by seven wickets. Meanwhile, Kohli’s undefeated 54-ball 73 earned him another Player of the Match honour. RCB now has 10 points and an NRR of 0.472, moving them up to third place after this victory. PBKS, on the other hand, are in fourth place, barely below, with the same points and an NRR of 0.177.
“This game is really crucial for us. There is a significant difference when you go from eight [points] to ten. We have positioned ourselves well. Rajat [Patidar] may be able to play around me, as may Dev [Dutt]. The urge to continue in the same manner is constant.
We learnt from the first two games, and the final one was a condensed version of the original. One partnership is sufficient during a run chase in Twenty20 cricket, as we all know. I can speed if necessary. For us, it was an excellent auction. Our desired team was acquired. They knew exactly who they wanted. It’s coming together quite well. Every other season lacked that. During the post-match interview, Kohli stated, “That intensity and feistiness are visible.”
