During the IPL 2025 Powerplay overs, Gujarat Titans opener Sai Sudharsan shared his thoughts. In an interview, the southpaw, who leads the league in runs scored after Match 63, said that, because of pitch constraints, he views the Powerplay as the most crucial part of the game.
The southpaw asserted that as a batter, you must maximise the field limitations. However, he believed that if the hitters were to bat first, they also needed to evaluate the par score and the characteristics of the surfaces. In the current season, not every wicket is flat, according to the GT hitter, who also mentioned that batters must adjust to various surfaces.
“The most crucial six overs in the game, where you can maximise and get the most out of it, is the Powerplay, as everyone is aware. However, I think it’s crucial to try to understand how the wicket behaves and what might be the aim if you’re batting first since not all of the wickets are flat this season,” Sai Sudharsan remarked in an interview with Star Sports.

If we feel the wicket is good, we go for it: Sai Sudharsan
Sudharsan added that his focus is to achieve the best possible score as per the nature of the surface. The Titans’ opener said that his and Shubman Gill’s focus is to go for runs and not to have a certain target in mind.
“At the same time, my focus is to try to know what the best score is on a given surface and try to achieve it. Shubman and I don’t have a certain target in mind to achieve in the first six overs of the innings. If we feel the wicket is good, we go for it,” Sudharsan added.
Both Gill and Sudharsan have batted well this season, with both being in the list of top run-getters. While Sai has 617 runs in 12 innings at an average of 56.09, his skipper has 601 runs in as many innings at an average of 60.10. Both are one-two in the Orange Cap list.
