Rohit Sharma led the way with the bat for Mumbai Indians in the Eliminator of the present Indian Premier League season between Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians at Mullanpur Cricket Stadium. Rohit was dismissed on the fourth delivery of the 17th over after reaching 81 off 50 deliveries, although he had outperformed expectations for a seasoned pro.
With MI at 65/0, Jonny Bairstow was the more aggressive of the two opening players. A six and two fours off Sai Kishore’s first and last powerplay deliveries provided much-needed fuel to his innings. The former MI captain reached fifty in just 28 deliveries on the first ball of the tenth over. Rohit had already reached 56 at the end of the 10-over mark.
From there on, Rohit blasted two fours and as many sixes, giving him more than enough time to reach his third tonne in IPL history, and his second in back-to-back seasons. However, it was not to be, as Prasidh Krishna defeated Rohit due to a lack of pace. Rashid Khan caught Rohit’s flick across the line at midwicket. The delivery was bowled at only 96 kph.
Interestingly, Rohit has a quiet, unimpressive playoff record. Rohit scored only 316 runs in the 21 innings he batted in the playoffs before to the current one, with a horrifically flat strike rate and average of 108.96 and 15.80, respectively. This specific innings was one of the primary causes for MI’s massive 228/5 at the end of their 20-over quota.
