After the IPL 2025 is over, Rohit Sharma is allegedly scheduled to get surgery on his left hamstring. He has been dealing with a hamstring problem for the last five years. But because he was the captain of the Indian team in both formats and had international obligations, he was unable to receive the required care.
After retiring from T20Is in 2024 and Tests earlier this month, he now has only one format to concentrate on. He is reportedly going to address the problem following his time with the Mumbai Indians in the 2025 Indian Premier League. His most recent operation was performed in November 2016 to address the tendon in his right upper quadriceps. Three months or so were needed for the best recuperation.
The timing of the procedure is ideal if Rohit Sharma hopes to compete in the 2027 World Cup.
He has been delaying it for years due to leadership responsibilities, but the schedule now permits him to recuperate without hastening his return, a person familiar with the situation told.
The 50-over schedule for India is less crowded, giving Rohit Sharma more time to fully recover. In August, the Men in Blue will play Bangladesh in a limited-overs series consisting of six games. The next ODI series that has been confirmed is against Australia in October.
The India ODI captain may find that the post-IPL 2025 era is the best opportunity to address his problem permanently. Rohit has made it clear that he wants to captain the country in the 2027 World Cup, therefore it would be best for him to have surgery after the IPL to prepare for the big tournament.
