On April 8, in Match 22 at Mullanpur, Punjab Kings’ opener Priyansh Arya smashed a brilliant century off just 39 balls against Chennai Super Kings (CSK). In addition to leading Punjab to an overwhelming 219/6, Arya’s knock put him just behind the likes of Chris Gayle, Yusuf Pathan, and David Miller as the fourth-fastest centurion in IPL history, after Travis Head.

Before this outing, Arya was already gaining eyeballs in domestic circles. In the Delhi Premier League, Arya smashed six sixes in an over. Notably, this ton came even before his First-Class debut, making him only the second batter to achieve this feat after Paul Valthaty (2011), coincidentally, also for Punjab against CSK.

Opening the innings, the Southpaw got his innings started with a six off the very first ball he faced. Even a dropped chance by Khaleel Ahmed in the opening over couldn’t stop his momentum. He punished Mukesh Choudhary with three consecutive boundaries in the fourth over, and then went all out against Ravi Ashwin in the powerplay’s final over, smashing one six and a four to bring up his fifty in just 19 balls, making it the second-fastest half-century of IPL 2025.

He further smashed Matheesha Pathirana in the 13th over for three sixes, followed by a four, which took him to the memorable three-figure mark in just 39 balls. He eventually fell for 103 off 42 balls, laced with 7 fours and 9 sixes, while attempting a slog-sweep off Noor Ahmad.

Here’s how the fans reacted to Priyansh Arya’s maiden IPL ton against CSK:
