Tom Bruce, a top-order batsman who has committed to Scotland, will make his debut against Canada and Namibia in the forthcoming World Cup League 2 Series. Between 2017 and 2020, the 34-year-old played 17 Twenty20 Internationals for his home country of New Zealand.

Josh Davey, a bowler for Somerset, is back in the Scotland team after competing in the 2022 T20 World Cup. When the team for the four-match series—which will take place in King City, close to Toronto, from August 29 to September 6—was revealed, a number of players were unable to play because of personal, professional, or county obligations.

Brad Wheal, Scott Currie, Michael English, and Michael Jones are conspicuously missing from the team.

Prior to making his debut for New Zealand, Tom Bruce, who has played for Sussex and Lancashire, was a member of the Scotland development team in 2016.

“He has had a very successful career in New Zealand cricket, but we’ve been in conversations with him for some time about committing to playing for Scotland,” stated Steve Snell, head of performance for Cricket Scotland, as reported by BBC Sport. “He is proud of his Scottish heritage.”

He sees a great deal of potential for himself and the squad going forward and is eager to get engaged. Josh Davey has been unavailable to us for a while because of his county obligations, so it’s great to have him back. Over that period, Josh and I have had continuous communication, and he has consistently stated his wish to play for Scotland,” he continued.

Defending champions Scotland has 11 wins and seven losses from 20 games, good for third place in the eight-team standings. Only four points separate Canada and Namibia, who are in fifth and sixth place, respectively. Scotland’s first appearance since losing at the European T20 World Cup qualifier will be in this forthcoming series.

Scotland’s team

Brad Currie, Josh Davey, Jasper Davidson, Chris Greaves, Jack Jarvis, Michael Leask, Finlay McCreath, Brandon McMullen, George Munsey, Safyaan Sharif, Charlie Tear, Mark Watt, Richie Berrington (captain), Tom Bruce, and Matthew Cross.
