Mohammed Shami took to Instagram to respond to a fake news about his retirement, dispelling rumours about it. This follows the report’s assertion that Shami’s ability to bowl for extended periods of time was a prerequisite for his participation in India’s red-ball team against England in the forthcoming series.

The right-arm fast would be “likely to bid adieu to Test cricket,” according to the story, which Shami shared a screen grab of. He continued by making remarks about the remaining days for the journalist who wrote the piece in a light-hearted but firm manner.

Mohammed Shami continued by saying that, although the article was published on May 11, it was the worst story he had learnt about on May 13.

Remarkably, on May 7 and May 12, respectively, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli declared their retirement from Test cricket. Shami, who last played for India in the longest format in the World Test Championship final in June 2023 during the 2021–2023 cycle, has completely dispelled the many rumours about him.

The star pacer returned to local red-ball cricket after a lengthy injury break following the 2023 50-over World Cup, but he was not selected for the 2024–25 Australia tour because of persistent fitness issues. He played a key role in the Men in Blue’s successful Champions Trophy campaign and is currently playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2025.

India are scheduled to play five Tests in England, with the much-awaited series commencing on June 20. While the squad hasn’t been released by the Board of Control for Cricket in India yet, it is anticipated that Shami might return to the setup to jointly lead the line alongside other Indian pacers.
