The RCB picked a same starting lineup from their six-wicket loss to the Delhi Capitals at home, while the hosts made one change, replacing left-arm bowler Fazalhaq Farooqi with spinner Wanindu Hasaranga.

When the side finished the powerplay at 45/0, Sanju Samson took 15 balls to get his first boundary, while RR opener Yashasvi Jaiswal hit a boundary each in the first four overs of the match. In the opening over, Samson was stumped for 15 (19) by Krunal Pandya.

The track was difficult to bat on, and before the conclusion of 10 overs, RR had scored 77/1.
