Rishabh Pant responded epically to Sunil Gavaskar’s’superb, superb, superb’ compliment following his spectacular century in India’s first innings of the five-match Test series against England. He then shared a candid assessment on how he felt after earning his sixth century in the longest format.
Cheteshwar Pujara, an Indian batter, asked Pant how he felt when Gavaskar’s opinions shifted from’stupid, dumb’ to’wonderful, superb’. For the uninitiated, Gavaskar remarked’stupid, stupid, stupid’ on air during the Boxing Day Test against Australia in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy after the southpaw hit a dangerous shot off Scott Boland’s bowling, gifting his wicket away at a critical moment in the game.
“The feeling is identical to how you are feeling right now. It feels great to improve your flaws and turn setbacks into victories. This was the thought process. I was fortunate to have overcome my limitations. Hard work, focus, and discipline were heavily engaged. Pant told Pujara, “It was quite an exciting phase for me.”
