India’s resounding victory in the T20Is sets the stage for what is likely to be the most significant ODI series any team has played in the past 15 months. For those who are unaware, the three-match ODI series between England (ENG) and hosts India (IND) will take place. Notably, these will be the final ODIs that both teams will play before the Champions Trophy, which will be held in the UAE and Pakistan, respectively.

The Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur will host the first of these three One-Day Internationals. India and England haven’t played an ODI since August 2024 and October, respectively, despite both teams losing their most recent ODI series. Therefore, this series offers a vital chance to improve any potential shortcomings between the parties.

With 58 victories to England’s 44, India has often outperformed England in this format. The most recent ODI series between the two teams was also won by India. But given that they haven’t won an ODI series in India in the last 40 years, the Three Lions have more reason to be concerned.

Historically, it has been simpler to track down totals on the Nagpur surface, partly because of the dew. The pitch itself was well-rounded, with plenty to offer everyone.

Player Battles to Watch Out for in India vs England
Jos Buttler vs Mohammed Shami

India’s pace ace Mohammed Shami has always managed to have Jos Buttler’s number in this format. Buttler has made 57 runs in 67 balls at a strike rate of 85.07 but has been dismissed five times at an average of 11.40 in this format. Coupled with Buttler’s generally poor ODI record in India, he could be in for a tough time in this series.

Virat Kohli vs Adil Rashid

This battle has turned out to be a more balanced one as Virat Kohli has made 108 runs from 116 balls at a strike rate of 93.10 while being dismissed thrice at an average of 36. Kohli and Adil Rashid have the most runs and wickets for their sides respectively in ODIs among all players featuring in this series, and this clash of veterans has the potential to turn the game one way or the other.
