The Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) have selected famous West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo as their new head coach, ahead of the forthcoming Caribbean Premier League (CPL 2025). Bravo will succeed Phil Simmons, who is currently the head coach of Bangladesh’s men’s national team.

Bravo represented TKR in nine of the eleven seasons of his stellar CPL career, appearing in 107 matches, scoring 1155 runs, and claiming 129 wickets at an economy rate of 8.74. As a player, he won five championships, including a memorable 2021 season as captain of the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots.

“It is an honour to be appointed Head Coach of TKR, a team that is extremely close to my heart. “I’d like to personally thank Coach Phil Simmons for his time and commitment over the last few years, and now I’m looking forward to this new challenge for me and my staff,” he wrote on social media.

Last year, he mentored the Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and also coached the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders in the ILT20. He has also had prior stints as bowling consultant for Chennai Super Kings and, more recently, Afghanistan’s T20 World Cup 2024 campaign. Notably, TKR finished third in the league stage in 2024 but were eliminated in the first playoff, falling short against the Barbados Royals in the Eliminator.

Dwayne Bravo to join West Indies Champions for WCL

Despite taking on coaching responsibilities, Bravo isn’t done playing yet. The 40-year-old will once again take the field alongside his long-time teammates Chris Gayle and Kieron Pollard for the West Indies Champions in the second edition of the World Championship of Legends (WCL), starting July 18 in England. The tournament will be played across cities like Birmingham, Leeds, Leicester, and Northampton, with West Indies Champions opening their campaign on July 19 against South Africa Champions at Edgbaston. Last year, the Caribbean legends made it to the semi-finals before being knocked out by Pakistan.
