Corbin Bosch, South Africa’s seam-bowling all-rounder, has received a demerit point for sending off Ben Dwarshuis during the second T20I against Australia on Tuesday, August 12, at the Marrara Cricket Ground in Darwin.
The unfortunate incident occurred in the seventeenth over of the second innings. Bosch beat Dwarshuis with the fifth ball of the over. The former then gestured towards the dugout, anticipating a combative response from the batter.
Corbin Bosch recognised the infraction and accepted the sentence imposed by match referee Andy Pycroft, eliminating the need for a formal hearing.
On-field umpires Phillip Gillespie and Shawn Craig initially levelled the charge, with third umpire Sam Nogajski and fourth umpire Donovan Koch offering their backing.
According to the ICC’s conclusion, Bosch violated Article 2.5 of the Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which prohibits “using language, actions, or gestures that disparage or could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon his/her dismissal during an international match.” Bosch received only one demerit point for his first infraction within 24 months.
While Bosch was in the wrong on disciplinary grounds, he bowled an outstanding stint in the second T20I against Australia. The 30-year-old took the wickets of Mitchell Marsh, Adam Zampa, and Dwarshuis, finishing with 3/20 in three overs. South Africa knocked Australia out for 165 in 17.4 overs, winning by 53 runs to even the series at 1-1. The third and final T20I is scheduled on Saturday, August 16 at Cazaly’s Stadium in Cairns.
Earlier in the clash, Dewald Brevis slammed his maiden international century, scoring an unbeaten 125 off 56 balls to help South Africa get to 218/7 in their 20 overs after being asked to bat first. Brevis belted 12 fours and eight sixes in his exemplary innings.
