Daniel Vettori discussed Nitish Kumar Reddy, who had a mediocre IPL 2025 season after being a prominent member in SRH’s team in IPL 2024. The SRH head coach stated that it can be difficult for a youngster to keep form while playing in batting positions such as numbers 4 and 5, where scoring runs at a high rate is difficult.
Vettori believed that Reddy, at his best, could build an innings from a difficult situation and capitalise on it by accelerating well against spin and pace. Daniel Vettori did not investigate Nitish’s failure in the IPL 2025 and assumed it was an off-season. He argued that the top all-rounder is too talented to be unable to recover.
“It’s always challenging to play that role at No. 4 or 5. However, we know that Nitish, when at his best, builds his innings and can then capitalise at the end against pace and spin. So I believe it’s just one of those seasons where he’s learning, but he’s too brilliant a player not to bounce back,” Vettori said in the press conference following SRH’s victory over KKR.
‘It was purely down to injury’ – Daniel Vettori on Nitish Kumar Reddy bowling less
In their final few matches of the season, particularly since the league’s restart, SRH appeared to be a team capable of thwarting their opponents’ chances. They did, however, surprise everyone by defeating RCB and KKR in their final two games to finish the season on a positive note.
During the same media encounter, Vettori said that Reddy would be unable to bowl due to a side strain before the IPL 2025.
“He introduced a side-strain to the event, and thereafter it was simply a slow, deliberate build-up. “It was entirely due to injury,” Vettori remarked.
The rising all-rounder scored only 182 runs in 11 innings, with an average of 22.75 and a strike rate of 118.95. He has been selected for India’s tour of England and will seek to continue his fine form in Tests.
