Ben Stokes is an inspirational captain and cricketer for England. Since taking over as captain of the England Test squad, Stokes has inspired his teammates and instilled in them a battling attitude that has been praised by both experts and fans.
Stokes led from the front in India’s third Test against England, bowling marathon stints and scooping up crucial wickets with the ball while also captaining the side admirably. India dominated the most of the high-voltage encounter at Lord’s. However, Stokes and his teammates were unwavering in their quest of victory, and they eventually prevailed by 22 runs to take a 2-1 lead in the five-match series.
Former England captain Michael Vaughan was particularly delighted with Stokes’ decision to reintroduce Jofra Archer to England’s playing XI for the first time in four years in Test cricket against India. Vaughan was also impressed by several of Stokes’ pitch settings.
“What he has done for the team and the way he has played this expansive game across Test match cricket for the number of years is phenomenal,” Vaughan said while he was speaking.
Vaughan also stated that the Three Lions do not lose many games when Stokes is in command of the team. The cricketer-turned-expert highlighted the all-rounder’s ability to perform well under duress.
“When Ben Stokes is on the pitch, England doesn’t lose many cricket matches.
“When the pressure is on and the game is on the line, I don’t think I’ve ever seen Ben lose,” he continued.
England lost the first two matches in the Ashes in 2023 at home under Stokes’ leadership. However, they won two out of the next three games to draw level. England are all set to face Australia in the Ashes later this year. Vaughan believes that even if England fails to win the series, it shouldn’t cause any harm to Stokes’ legacy as a leader and a player.
