Cricket Australia (CA) is arranging a fitting goodbye for Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma when India visits Australia later this year to play white-ball matches against the Men in Yellow.
India will play three One-Day Internationals and as many Twenty20 Internationals in October and November. Kohli and Rohit retired after helping India win the T20 World Cup last year. Midway through the IPL, they chose to end their stellar Test careers. The two renowned bats will now only play for India in one-day internationals.
Both Rohit and Kohli are anticipated to play in the 50-over format till at least the ODI World Cup in 2027. While Rohit has lately shown an interest in representing India in the flagship tournament, Kohli, who averages an incredible 57.88 in ODIs, is poised to follow suit.
In a recent interview, Todd Greenberg, CEO of CA, stated that Kohli and Rohit may play their final ODI series in Australia this October. He underlined CA’s willingness to give the historic duo a proper send-off to honour their outstanding achievements to international cricket.
“This could be the last time we watch Virat Kohli or Rohit Sharma play for our country.
And if that’s the case, who knows? It may be otherwise, but if it is, we want to make sure we give them a terrific send-off that reflects the incredible contribution they’ve made to international cricket,” Todd Greenberg told IANS.
Rohit and Kohli could be seen in action during India’s tour of Bangladesh in August. India are set to play three ODIs on August 17, 20, and 23.
The Men in Blue will look for revenge as they haven’t been able to beat Bangladesh in their backyard in their last two ODI series. In 2015 and 2022, India lost by 1-2 margins. The ODI series will be followed by three T20Is on August 26, 29, and 31.
