Australia (AUS) dismissed South Africa (SA) for 138 runs in the first innings in the WTC Final 2025 (World Test Championship), taking a 74-run advantage on a difficult pitch to bat on at Lord’s. Pat Cummins was the highlight of the bowlers, running through the batting line-up and reaching 300 Test wickets with a six-for.
Chasing Australia’s 212, South Africa lost Aiden Markram in the first over of the innings, thanks to Mitchell Starc’s superb delivery. Ryan Rickelton didn’t last long either, as the left-arm bowler took his second wicket of the innings. Pat Cummins then delivered a fantastic performance with the ball.
The Australian captain dismissed Wiaan Mulder, followed by Tristan Stubbs, who was dismissed by Josh Hazlewood.
South Africa was reduced to 43/4 at stumps on Day 1 of the match. On Day 2, SA stepped up the pace as Temba Bavuma and David Bedingham forged a strong partnership.
Cummins claims a six-fer, completing the milestone of 300 Test wickets.
For the fifth wicket, the duo scored 64 runs until Bavuma threw his wicket away against the run of play. Pat Cummins later removed Kyle Verreynne with a fantastic DRS call, followed by a brilliant caught and bowled removal of Marco Jansen.
The Australian skipper bowled a terrific ball that induced the outside edge of Bedingham’s willow, and Carey made no mistakes to help his captain record a fifer at the Home of Cricket. South Africa quickly dropped from 94/4 at one point to 135/8 in the second session of the second day.
Keshav Maharaj was run out, and Cummins removed Kagiso Rabada to eliminate South Africa for 138 in their first innings. In the process, he took 6/28 in 18.1 overs, including six maidens. Cummins also reached 300 Test wickets by dismissing Rabada.
Here’s how the fans reacted to the South African innings –
South Africa bundled out for 138. Australia will be happy with a 74 run lead. Cummins takes 6.
Cant see this timid South Africa team winning from here.#TestChampionShip

Funny how I thought South Africa stand a chance after that 212 all out only for them to get bowled out for 138. Bavuma-David gave some hopes but no use.
Aussie Captain leading from the front. Never fails to perform, unreal consistency specially at the biggest stage.

I really wanted South Africa to win but they are NOT beating Australia that too in a final ever 😭😭

Not sure if South Africa are choking as usual or if it’s Australia being Australia in finals 🤨
