In their current Test series against South Africa, the Indian side is not having a good start. Following victories in the T20I and ODI series, the visitors suffered a crushing defeat in Centurion as South Africa outclassed them en route to an innings and 32-run triumph. Former Indian cricket player Irfan Pathan has come forth with some suggestions for the visitors to make in order to return to winning ways as both teams prepare for the second and final Test match in Cape Town. Pathan suggested that Ravindra Jadeja, a talented all-round player, take Ravichandran Ashwin’s position in Cape Town.
He said that India needed to address the lack of Jadeja’s control in the lower order.
“If healthy, Ravindra Jadeja ought to rejoin the squad. We missed Jadeja’s control when batting at number seven in Centurion, but Ravichandran Ashwin did bowl effectively relative to expectations on that pitch, Pathan told Star Sports.
It’s OK to stick with the same bowling strategy if you’re Rohit Sharma. But Mukesh Kumar might replace Prasidh Krishna if you’re considering switching. However, Prasidh should be supported for the second test if you believe he is confident in the nets,” he continued.
India lost the match at Centurion by an inning due to outplaying. After giving up 408 runs in the first inning, Rohit Sharma and company could only muster 245 in response to KL Rahul’s century. To secure a decisive victory, South Africa dismissed India for 131 runs with a commanding 163-run advantage.
The Indian squad will try to put on their best performances in order to avoid losing the series in the second Test of the series, which is scheduled to take place at the Newlands Stadium in Cape Town starting on January 3.
