Birmingham will host the 2023 World Games of the International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) from August 18 to August 27. A variety of sporting events will take place throughout the event, including archery, chess, cricket, blind football, partially sighted football, women’s football, goalball (male/female), judo, powerlifting, showdown, ten pin bowling, and tennis.
Despite their stellar record, the renowned captain of the Indian Blind Cricket Team, Ajay Kumar Reddy, stated his worries about their financial status.
“Although we have financial difficulties, we will work hard to win the gold medal in the World Games and uphold India’s honour. We require significant financial assistance, though, in order to excel in athletics. We have won multiple World Cups, but we are having trouble raising the necessary funds to upgrade our facilities. My crew has been performing incredibly well, and I am so proud of them, said Ajay Kumar Reddy, as reported by NDTV.
He continued, “Despite the Indian Blind Cricket Team’s outstanding achievement over the previous ten years, we still struggle to receive financial backing. We currently work with IndusInd Bank on a contract, but we are unsure of what will happen after it expires.
Reddy lauded the team’s cohesiveness and claimed that over the past ten years, the spirit has remained exceptional. The older team members enthusiastically support the new recruits, providing a supportive and motivating environment inside the group.
Regarding the BCCI’s financial support, he acknowledged the move and said, “We were fortunate when the BCCI formed a DCA committee, providing us with essential financial support.”
Aakash Chopra, a former Indian cricketer, recently offered his support for both the men’s and women’s teams as they prepare for the IBSA World Games in Birmingham in 2023. As the teams set out on this historic trek to honour the country, Chopra urged everyone to support them. The teams for the World Games 2023 were carefully chosen at the selection trials that took place in Bengaluru in May of this year.
