Ambati Rayudu is currently preparing for his second inning after retiring from all forms of Indian cricket. According to reports, the Andhra Pradesh-born cricketer is likely to enter politics and run in the Lok Sabha elections.
Recently, the 37-year-old conferred with the Andhra Pradesh chief minister, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, twice. Reddy is also the leader of the YSRCP. The chief minister purportedly wants the Indian cricketer to run in the upcoming election.
According to a report in The Times of India, Rayudu may run for office, but it has not been verified whether he will run for the assembly or Lok Sabha. Senior YSRCP politicians believe the cricketer should run for assembly in either the Ponnur or Guntur West districts. In the event of Lok Sabha elections, they believe he should choose Machilipatnam, according to additional reports.
Ambati Rayudu lauded the chief minister, stating he is a major inspiration for young people interested in politics.
“CM Jagan Mohan Reddy is a major source of inspiration for aspiring politicians. Instead of focusing on one region, he is spearheading development in all of them,” the cricketer was quoted as saying by News 18.
Ambati Rayudu will compete for the Texas Super Kings in the MLC’s inaugural season.
