Shakib Al Hasan, a star all-rounder for Bangladesh, is back in the team for the three-game series.
Bangladesh has chosen 15 players for the upcoming One-Day International (ODI) series against Afghanistan. The three-game ODI series will start on July 5 at Chattogram’s Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium. Notably, all three games in the series will be played at the same place. The 36-year-old didn’t play in the one-off Test against Afghanistan at the Sher-e-Bangla in Mirpur because he hurt his finger in May while playing ODIs against Ireland.
The hosts will try to keep winning in the 50-over version, like they did against India and Ireland in the last few games.
Before the series against Afghanistan, Bangladesh played a T20I series, a one-off Test, and an ODI series against Ireland. The one-off Test and ODI series were played in the UK. Bangladesh was in charge of the limited-overs series. In particular, the Tamil Iqbal-led team defeated Ireland throughout the entire series.
In one Test, Bangladesh beat Afghanistan by a huge 546 runs.
Afghanistan’s trip to Bangladesh began with a single Test match, which the team under Litton Das won by a sizable margin of 546 runs. Najmul Hossain Shanto’s hundred helped Bangladesh get 382 runs in their first game. In their first inning, the newcomers only scored 146 runs. Ebadot Hossain got rid of four of them.
Shanto hit another century in the second inning, and Mominul Haque also hit a century. By the end of Day 3, Bangladesh had scored 425 runs and set a goal of 662 runs. Taskin Ahmed took four wickets as the hosts limited the Hashmatullah Shahidi-led team to just 115 runs, which was not enough to win the game by 546 runs. Bangladesh’s win was their third-largest ever in the oldest version of the game.
After the three ODI matches between Bangladesh and Afghanistan, there will be three T20I matches.
