The ICC T20 World Cup 2024 is clearly generating enthusiasm, as team India prepares for their opening game against Ireland on June 5. Though head coach Rahul Dravid has stayed silent about the choice, there have been rumours since the season began about the team’s starting lineup.
Dravid made it clear that skipper Rohit Sharma’s opening partner for the tournament has not yet been decided, even though youthful opener Yashasvi Jaiswal was not given the chance to bat during the practice match against Bangladesh on June 1.
We’ll definitely hold off on showing our cards for the time being, but we do have options. Virat also opened in the IPL, along with Rohit and Jaiswal. We selected the team with the understanding that we have three possibilities from which we could select what we desired based on the circumstances and lineup we enter these games with,” Dravid stated, as cited by the Times of India.
You’ll need to respond and adjust regardless of the outcome: Rahul Dravid
The uneven bounce and slow outfield of the Nassau County ground in New York have brought attention to the playing surface. But Dravid remained composed, highlighting the team’s emphasis on adjusting their style of play in difficult circumstances.
Here, we held three practice sessions. The wicket improved starting in the third session. To be sure, a wicket is a wicket. We wish to avoid categorising it as positive or harmful. It’s a wicket that you have to deal with and adapt to. So we’re not going to be upset about the wicket,” he continued.
Dravid conceded that the conventional standard of a 200-run aim might not hold in this competition due to the particular difficulties presented by the location.
When it comes to Twenty20 cricket, it’s possible that we won’t be able to play that way in this competition. In this particular venue, perhaps. We intend to perform in numerous locations. Thus, things will be unique there. It will therefore be crucial to adjust,” he continued.

Perhaps that will be the winning point total. There will be games where the winning score is 200. Therefore, you will need to respond and adjust regardless of the outcome,” he said.
