India, with seven titles, and another club with six titles, are the two most successful teams in Asia Cup history.
On September 12 at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, Sri Lanka will face each other in the fourth game of the Super Four of the Super 11 Asia Cup 2023.
India will be into the match fresh off of a decisive 228 run victory against Pakistan, their longtime nemesis. Team India posted a staggering total of 356/2 in a rain-delayed match that continued on a reserve day, with all four of the top batsmen getting more than fifty runs. In spite of both being dismissed after collecting fifty runs, Rohit Sharma and Gill managed to put up another century stand for the first wicket.
Virat Kohli scored his 77th century and became the ODI player to reach 13000 runs in the fewest number of innings (267), surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s record by 54 innings. KL Rahul made his comeback with a wonderful century. Kuldeep Yadav excelled in the bowling department, picking up five wickets and became the second Indian to record a five-wicket haul for India in an Asia Cup ODI. India will try to maintain its winning streak to secure their final slot.
On the other side, Sri Lanka will be entering the match after a strong 2023 that saw them win 13 straight ODIs. They not only won 13 games, but they did so impressively on each of those occasions by bowling out the opposition. Their go-to batters are Kusal Mendis and Sadeera Samarawickrama. Mendis got back-to-back fifty-scores in his past two games, totaling 92 and 50, respectively. Samarawickrama also scored back-to-back fifty-scores against Bangladesh, totaling 54 and 93, respectively.
Although both of their openers made excellent beginnings, they were unable to capitalise on those opportunities. All of the team’s bowlers have delivered when it counts most, with Kasun Rajitha taking four wickets against Afghanistan and the trio of Theekshana Pathirana, Shanaka, and Shanaka taking three each in a 21-run victory over Bangladesh. With both the bat and the ball, Dunith Wellalage has demonstrated his all-around promise since replacing the injured Hasaranga. Sri Lanka will also try to extend their winning streak in order to secure their last spot.
