The five-match T20I series during the India tour of the West Indies will now take center stage after the Test and ODI series have concluded. On Thursday, August 3, at Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, Trinidad, the first Twenty20 International between the two countries will get underway. Notably, it will be a landmark match for the Men in Blue as they play their 200th T20I after playing their inaugural match back in 2006.
India has participated in 199 T20I games so far, winning 127 of those games, and they have also won one T20 World Cup. They are the second-most successful side in the format (in terms of games won), just a few wins behind Pakistan, who have won 134 of the 223 games they have played.
When India plays the West Indies in the opening T20I, they will become just the second side to play 200 T20Is.
On December 1, 2006, the Asian heavyweights faced South Africa in Johannesburg and triumphed by a score of six wickets under the leadership of Virender Sehwag. With just one game under the new format under their belts, MS Dhoni-led India immediately entered the 2007 T20 World Cup.
The young squad stunned everyone by winning the trophy by defeating Pakistan in the championship match, becoming the first-ever T20 World Champions in history.
