DUBLIN—The final preparations for the Ireland Women‘s Cricket Team’s rare multi-format tour to the West Indies are done. The team will leave on June 21, and the first match will be on June 26. Three one-day internationals, which are part of the ICC Women’s Championship, and three Twenty20 internationals will be played on the tour.
“We’re very excited to leave for St. Lucia on Wednesday. We played our last Super Series game there on Sunday, so it was great to have a 50-over game before our ODI series starts next week. We’ve played a few games against the Ireland Under-15s Boys over the past week, and they’ve been great. They’ve been tough, but that’s what we want before we go away, said Laura Delany, the captain of the Ireland Women’s team.
“Our opponent will be a new test for us, but we’re ready for it. They’re adding a few players who didn’t play in our match at the T20 World Cup in February, and playing them at their home ground will be hard for us. Most of the girls on our team will be going there for the first time, so it will be fun to see how quickly we can adjust. I’ve heard that it’s supposed to be in the high 30s, but we’ll find out for sure when we get there. No matter what, it will be a great experience to go there and play in a famous field.”
