Rohit Sharma, the captain of India, has declared that he will not be joining the Indian side in Australia for the forthcoming Border-Gavaskar series in 2024–2025. Before the first Test of the BGT 2024–25, Rohit was reportedly not traveling with the Indian squad since he and his wife were expecting their second child.
It is important to remember that India will play Australia in Perth on November 22 to begin the BGT 2024–25. Rohit Sharma may still play in the first Test match in Perth, according to sources, even though he is not traveling.
Although Rohit isn’t traveling with the team, he still has a chance to play in the first Test. The Times of India cited a BCCI insider who suggested that he would take a plane to Australia nearer the first Test later in the third week.
Notably, the Indian team is expected to leave for Australia on Sunday and Monday in two separate groups. India’s prospects of making it to the 2025 World Test Championship final have also decreased after they were humiliated by New Zealand in their own stadium.
In the BGT 2024–25, Rohit Sharma and his team must defeat Australia in four Test matches in order to advance straight to the WTC final.
He’ll take the lead in Perth: The Gambhir
Since Rohit Sharma was reportedly unable to participate in the first BGT Test, there have been numerous debates about who will captain India in his place. In the lead-up to the first Test, India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir announced that star pacer Jasprit Bumrah will captain the team in Rohit’s place.
Before India left for Australia, Gambhir told reporters, “Bumrah is the vice captain; if Rohit is not available, he will be led in Perth.” In addition, Gambhir discussed who would take Rohit’s place if he was unable to play in the opening Test.
