It will soon be announced by the International Cricket Council (ICC) that the 2024 T20 World Cup will also be held in New York. Notably, the United States of America and the West Indies will share hosting duties for the eagerly anticipated competition.
The ICC will identify the location as a 34,000-seat temporary structure 30 miles east of New York City. It will be constructed in the 930-acre Eisenhower Park in East Meadow, a hamlet on Long Island, 30 miles east of Manhattan. The highly anticipated encounter between India and Pakistan is likely to take place at the same location.
After extensive negotiations between the ICC and New York City officials to construct a comparable pop arena in Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx fell through, the announcement is anticipated to be made. The officials were compelled to cancel the plans for the Bronx after facing fierce criticism from some of the locals and one of the cricket leagues that operates out of the same area. On the other hand, ICC has discussions with the leaders of Eisenhower Park and Nassau County.
The International Cricket Council has been pushing for cricket to develop popularity in the US. The nation also has a dual attraction because it has the largest media market and the fastest-growing cricket market in the entire world. The US is regarded as one of the top four countries in terms of financial value for ICC tournament media rights, and the apex body’s choice of the nation to serve as co-hosts was one such affirmative action.
Many of the ICC’s worries about venues in the US are likely to be allayed by the Eisenhower Park arrangement. The United States has been allocated about 20 games, which will now be distributed among the three venues, by the ICC. Another MLC location, Church Street Park in Morrisville, North Carolina, is rumored to be in the running to host a few games during the championship tournament. On the other side, there are no permanent structures or training facilities at the facility.
