During the current County Championship Division Two match between Northamptonshire and Derbyshire at County Ground, Northampton, veteran Indian leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal claimed his 100th first-class wicket.
Chahal’s five-for helped Northamptonshire demolish Derbyshire for just 165 after the latter was knocked out for 219 in the first innings. On Day 2, he took wicket of Zak Chappell to make it 100 wickets in his first-class career. The 34-year-old reached the milestone in his 38th first-class match. He is thought to be one of the best spinners in contemporary white-ball cricket.
Following Yuzvendra Chahal valiant efforts, rain forced an early halt to Day 2’s play, with Northamptonshire finishing at 178/5 in 46.2 overs.
Ultimately, after bowling 16.3 overs, Chahal concluded with statistics of 5/45. The Haryana spinner also took out Aneurin Donald, Wayne Madsen, Alex Thomson, and Jack Morley in addition to Chappell. Along with 354 T20 wickets from 305 games, Chahal also has 219 dismissals from 138 List A matches. Rob Keogh (46) and Lewis McManus (10) at the wicket have given the home team a 232-run lead.
Both innings see Prithvi Shaw fail.
Indian player Prithvi Shaw did not do well with the bat, but Chahal had a great first-inning performance with the ball. He was removed by right-arm pacer Chappell after hitting the opening ball of the first innings for a boundary. He was dismissed by right-arm bowler Harry Moore in the second innings after managing only two runs off of eight deliveries.
