When India and New Zealand square off in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 semi-final, Rod Tucker will bat in his 100th ODI. Richard Illingworth of England and the Australian will officiate the match between the host nation and the 2019 runners-up, who defeated India at the same level four years prior, in Mumbai.
When New Zealand defeated Australia by eighteen runs in a weather-affected two-day match at Old Trafford, Illingworth was also an on-field umpire. Tucker was the third umpire.
Match referee Andy Pycroft, fourth umpire Adrian Holdstock, and third umpire Joel Wilson will accompany Tucker for his historic match. Tucker stood in his first ODI in January 2009. Overseeing the second semi-final between Australia and South Africa in Kolkata, Richard Kettleborough, who has already surpassed a century of ODIs during this championship, will add to his total.
This will be Kettleborough’s third World Cup in which he has overseen a semi-final, having reached his landmark on October 21 when the Netherlands faced Sri Lanka. Chris Gaffaney will serve as the third umpire, while Nitin Menon, who is officiating in his maiden World Cup, will accompany him on the field. The fifth umpire, Michael Gough, and the match referee, Javagal Srinath, round out the team.
Ahsan Raza’s 50th one-day international (ODI) against England vs. Netherlands in Pune on November 8th was another World Cup milestone. The match officials were commended for their work by ICC Manager of Umpires and Referees Sean Easey.
We are pleased to announce the World Cup semifinal match officials.
I wish everyone in the knockout stages of the competition the best of luck, as the officiating team has upheld a high level throughout the event.
Furthermore, I would want to use this occasion to congratulate Rod and Richard on reaching significant milestones during the World Cup. Such accomplishments can only be attained by continuously putting in excellent performances, which speaks highly of each of them.”
