The much-anticipated Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 final is underway at Newlands in Cape Town. The South African team is excited to reach the World Cup final for the first time. After losing the first game to Sri Lanka, hosts South Africa came back to reach the finals.

All-rounder Marizanne Kapp shed tears during South Africa’s national song before the final, a momentous moment for her country. She reflected the stadium’s pride in rainbow nation.
South Africa has had a great tournament. After losing to Sri Lanka in the tournament opener, they beat New Zealand by 65 runs in their second match.

They lost again to the defending champions Australia by six wickets. In their final game against Bangladesh, a must-win, they won by ten wickets and qualified for the semi-finals.

The Proteas won the semi-final against England by six runs after holding their nerve throughout the game.
In the final, Meg Lanning won the toss and elected to bat. Australian big-match player Alyssa Healy opened the innings.

Marizanne Kapp sent her back to the pavilion cheaply for 18 off 20 balls, earning her team their first strike at 36. Beth Mooney’s tough knock stabilised Australia’s batting after losing Healy cheaply.

Ashleigh Gardner’s 29 off 21 balls supported Mooney. Australia had 118/3 after 16 overs, with Mooney undefeated on 47 (40) and Meg Lanning 9 off 6 balls.
