July 18, 2024: Disney Star will serve as the host broadcaster for the ninth ACC Women’s Asia Cup, which will take place in a T20 format from July 19 to July 28, 2024, extending its long-standing relationship with the ACC. Disney Star, the event’s host broadcaster, will create the global feed and telecast the event in India.
This is an extension of Disney Star’s ongoing efforts to raise awareness of and interest in women’s cricket. These efforts began with the 2013 Women’s World Cup live broadcast and have since been bolstered by a number of noteworthy production and programming initiatives, award-winning marketing campaigns and digital activations. Extra multi-language feeds for India matches will supplement the Asia Cup 2024 telecast in India. The “The Greatest Rivalry – India vs Pakistan” campaign, which reached a fever pitch during the just finished ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, is also being promoted alongside the event.
With seven titles under their belt, the Indian women’s team is the ACC Women’s Asia Cup defending champion. The best cricket teams from Asia, including those from Bangladesh, Malaysia, Thailand, Nepal, India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka, will compete in the tournament.
“We are thrilled to continue our partnership with Disney Star as the host broadcaster for the ACC Women’s Asia Cup 2024,” ACC President Jay Shah stated. Their commitment to advancing women’s cricket has played a significant role in taking the game to new heights. We think that Disney Star’s extensive and multilingual broadcast will introduce the excitement and passion of women’s cricket to millions of fans in India and beyond as we anticipate a fantastic competition in Sri Lanka. This partnership demonstrates our mutual dedication to elevating women’s cricket to a worldwide sport and motivating the next generation of players.
“Supporting the ACC Women’s Asia Cup 2024 as the host broadcaster underscores our commitment to popularising women’s cricket,” said Sanjog Gupta, Head of Sports at Disney Star. We take great pride in having helped to elevate “her story” and advance women’s cricket. The goal of Disney Star’s in-depth coverage of the event is to capture the excitement of women’s cricket while also showcasing the exceptional players in hero-like narratives that should encourage younger girls to take up the sport.
