The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has informed that Suryakumar Yadav, the captain of India’s Twenty20 international team, will be playing under the Mumbai colours once more.
The dynamic batter will take part in the multi-day Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament soon. The domestic season in India will begin with this competition. It has historically drawn Test stars and even captains of India, such as Mohammad Azharuddin, Sourav Ganguly, and Krishnamachari Srikkanth.
With Suryakumar involved, the competition should pick up some new steam and perhaps draw in some more well-known players. The 33-year-old will play in MCA XI’s second game, which is set for August 27–30 in Coimbatore against Tamil Nadu Cricket Association XI.
Sarfaraz Khan, a prolific batter, was selected captain of the 17-member squad that the state organisation just revealed for the impending domestic championship. Yadav will now play under Sarfaraz’s captaincy after not being named in the team at first.
He stated, as reported by News18, “Suryakumar will play the second match for Mumbai.”
With India’s next assignment, a two-match Test series against Bangladesh, not commencing until September 19, his choice to participate comes during a lull in the international cricket schedule. The cricketer’s involvement was confirmed by a Mumbai Cricket Association official.
For India, he hopes to compete in all three formats: An MCA representative
Speaking anonymously, another MCA official stated that this is a step towards the cricket player’s goal of representing the country in all formats. Additionally, he disclosed Yadav’s availability for Mumbai whenever he has spare time.
“Surya has always been available for Mumbai whenever he is free, so it won’t be different this year either. He wants to play in all three formats for India,” an official stated.
Suryakumar’s involvement is motivated by more than just selfish interests. Younger players on the team should benefit from his presence in terms of motivation.
A source from the MCA stated, “He will compete in tournaments like Buchi Babu and KSCA (Gold Cup) in addition to the Ranji Trophy, where his presence will also motivate the youngsters in the team.”
