In the second Test at Trent Bridge, West Indies have reversed their fortunes after a dismal batting display in the first Test at Lord’s. It was considered a solid score to put pressure on the visitors after England “bazballed” their way to 416 runs in the first innings. But the team captained by Kraigg Brathwaite turned in a fantastic display with the bat, having learned from their past errors.
At that point, Alick Athanaze and Kavem Hodge took charge of the circumstance and assisted the West Indies in rising again. England was under pressure as the pair cobbled together a 175-run partnership, as they appeared to be at a loss for a while. With Athanaze scoring 82 runs off just 99 balls and Hodge smashing a fantastic century, the West Indies took command.
The captain himself got off to a solid 48-run start. But Kirk McKenzie and Mikyle Louis fell short, and at one point the West Indies were 84/3. Since their batting unit faltered a few times in the first Test, they needed to perform exceptionally well after losing three quick wickets.
Interestingly, Kavem Hodge celebrated his first-ever century in international cricket with utmost poise. In the meantime, the 31-year-old received a standing ovation from the spectators.
Eventually, Chris Woakes overcame him and scored 120 runs. The fans gave him another standing ovation as he made his way back to the dressing room, and the cricket player expressed their gratitude.
Joshua Da Silva and Jason Holder assumed charge of the matter following his dismissal. After Day 2, both batted with confidence and were not out for 23* and 32* runs, respectively. At stumps, West Indies are losing by 65 runs with a 351/5 score. On the third day, England will be looking to take early wickets; if not, the visitors can go for victory, like they did when they played Australia at the Gabba earlier this year.

The West Indies batting lineup have shown a great display of strength . Especially Hodge and Athanaze . All you need is to bat and bat. This is what you want in test cricket. A real competition from both sides. #ENGvsWI #Testcricket #CricketTwitter #Englandcricket #Testmatch

Brilliant Brilliant from the West Indies. To score more than 350 in the day and lose only 5 wickets, they would be over the moon with this effort. Not many expected this rearguard from them after the 1st test. A bit like Gabba test#ENGvWI #WIvENG #ENGvsWI
