On Thursday, June 20, India and Afghanistan will face off in match number 43 of the current T20 World Cup 2024 at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados.
After winning the toss, Rohit Sharma chose to bat first. He declared that Kuldeep Yadav, who will be participating in the event for the first time, will take Mohammed Siraj’s spot in the Super Eight match.
In his three games during the 2024 T20 World Cup, Siraj has only claimed one wicket. He was pretty frugal, though, and bowled with superb control. Although Rohit did not provide an explanation for the move, it is known that the Indian team management believes spinners might be quite important given the conditions in the Caribbean.
Rashid Khan, meantime, said that Hazratullah Zazai, a powerful hitter, will be playing in this high-stakes match instead of all-rounder Karim Janat. Afghanistan has chosen to add Zazai to their batting lineup in order to complement their formidable bowling lineup.
As the game progresses, Rohit predicted that it will become slower due to the lack of grass on the pitch. He discussed the significance of adjusting to the surroundings.
“We’ll take the pitch first. Right now, it seems fine; this seems like a nice track. With no grass on the pitch, it will probably get slower. It is superior to New York. We need to immediately adjust to the circumstances. After spending a few days here, we had played a lot of cricket. It all comes down to knowing what to do in situations such as these. The start is early. Usually begin somewhere else in the evening. Here, we have fun playing. Kuldeep replaces Siraj in the one change we have made,” Rohit announced during the toss.
