After being removed for just 4 runs off 9 balls in the second one-day international match between India and Sri Lanka, the talismanic batsman Virat Kohli of India was unable to get a hat-trick of hundreds in one-day internationals.
The batter had scored consecutive century in his most recent two one-day matches, the first against Sri Lanka and the third against Bangladesh. Both of those matches took place in Bangladesh.
However, luck didn’t favour him in Kolkata. However, prior to the beginning of India’s batting, former India opener Gautam Gambhir advised the squad to re-align its attention and think about the One-Day International series they lost in Bangladesh rather than putting too much emphasis on individual exploits.
During the break that occurred in the middle of the innings, Gambhir stated that while if individual accomplishments are highly important, the primary focus should be on doing well as a team.
“It is important that we should not forget that India was defeated in the last series played in Bangladesh. We had completely lost track of it. Absolutely; both individual brilliance and individual hundreds are very vital to the overall success of the game.
When it comes to your record, the fact that you’ve gotten 50 or 100 hundreds seems really impressive. Congratulations on this accomplishment!
However, we must ensure that the events that took place in Bangladesh are never forgotten since they present a significant educational opportunity.
“I think we should grow from there rather than thinking and focusing on this series as what has happened in the past shouldn’t be forgotten,” Gambhir said on Star Sports during the discussion. “India’s full strength side losing to Bangladesh in Bangladesh,” Gambhir said on Star Sports during the discussion. “I think we should grow from there.”
After the first one-day international match against Sri Lanka, Kohli discussed the challenges he faced in the lead-up to the Asia Cup 2022. However, the 33-year-old batsman achieved his 71st international century during the competition, which took place against Bangladesh. Since then, he has gone on to hit a couple of further hundreds in one-day cricket.
“When I got back from the Asia Cup and was able to relax, I started having fun in practise. I started enjoying training again.
In this manner, I have always competed in my cricket matches. What I will say is that if you feel a little bit desperate, you should always take two steps back rather than pushing more and more. This is what I will advise.
Because after that, everything will start to move away from you, ” Kohli had explained to Suryakumar Yadav during their conversation.
When Kohli hits the field in the third and final one-day international match against Sri Lanka on Sunday, he will already have 20 “home” ODI hundreds to his name, which puts him in pursuit of Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 22.
