Regarding the Chennai Super Kings captaincy for the 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League, CSK chief executive officer Kasi Viswanathan has made it abundantly clear that Mahendra Singh Dhoni will take charge of the team.
Ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 auction, the player retention lists of all ten teams in the league have been made public.
Despite the fact that a number of teams have let go of some of their veteran players, others have managed to hold on to their essential personnel. The legendary all-rounder Dwayne Bravo has parted ways with the four-time champion Chennai Super Kings after an association spanning 11 years that was hugely successful.
Chris Jordan, a death-overs specialist for England, was one of the players that CSK decided to release in addition to the Windies star. Insofar as the leadership of the CSK team is concerned, CSK chief executive officer Kasi Viswanathan has made it abundantly clear that Mahendra Singh Dhoni will serve in that capacity.
“Everyone knows that Thalaiva (Dhoni) will lead the side, and he will do his best and the team will do well,” he said. “Everybody knows that Thalaiva (Dhoni) will lead the side.”
In preparation for the Indian Premier League 2022, Ravindra Jadeja was given the role of team captain. However, CSK did not perform well under his leadership, and he was eventually forced to withdraw from the competition because of an injury. After then, MS Dhoni was given the role of captain of the team once more.
When asked about Dhoni’s history with the team, former India star Pragyan Ojha said that selecting Dhoni’s successor as captain could be a difficult task for the team that has won four times in a row.
“It is impossible for there to be a change captain while MS Dhoni is still in the lineup. In the past year, it has become even more apparent. Having said that, if you had asked me this question a year ago, I would have said maybe Kane Williamson. However, based on what I know about CSK, if this is MS Dhoni’s final year, they would want to pass on the captaincy to someone who can fulfil the role for the next five to six years and provide consistency for the team. CSK is the kind of team that does not like to make a lot of changes, and as a result, they are looking for a captain who can lead them for a long time. The CSK squad is more like a blue-chip company than a day trading outfit “On JioCinema, the former India spinner Pragyan Ojha was quoted as saying.
CSK players Dwayne Bravo, Robin Uthappa, Adam Milne, Hari Nishaanth, Chris Jordan, Bhagath Varma, KM Asif, and Narayan Jagadeesan were all released from their contracts.
