The next one-day international series for Team India will be against New Zealand, and it will start on Friday in Auckland. There will be three matches total. Shikhar Dhawan, a batsman who bats left-handed, will take over as captain of the team while Rohit Sharma is sidelined.
Shikhar Dhawan will be serving as captain for the third time in 2022, having previously done so during the one-day international series against West Indies and then again during the one-day international series played at home against South Africa.
It is essential to point out that the batter was designated as the captain for the Zimbabwe series as well; however, at the very last minute, KL Rahul came back into the side having recovered from his injury, and he was then given the role of captain.
Dhawan was asked about how he felt when he was removed as the captain for the Zimbabwe series at the very last minute prior to the first one-day international that they would play against New Zealand.
“You have posed a thought-provoking query there. At this point in my professional development, I count it as a tremendous blessing that I am given the opportunity to take charge of the team.
I have positive feelings about it, yet at the same time, it is a struggle. With such a young team, we have been successful in winning series. When KL Rahul returned from the Zimbabwe tour, I kept in mind that he needed to prepare for the Asia Cup. KL Rahul is the vice-captain of our main team, and I was aware of this fact when he returned.
During the Asia Cup, if Rohit had suffered an injury, KL might have been asked to take the lead instead. Therefore, it was to everyone’s advantage that he was able to get some practise during the Zimbabwe tour “Dhawan said this while speaking at a press conference before the match.
“I was not in any pain. In my opinion, everything that takes place is for the very best. After that, the selectors and the management of the team gave me the opportunity to lead the team in the series that was played in South Africa, and I accepted it. I never feel bad, “he added.
Shikhar Dhawan made these comments while discussing the upcoming 2023 World Cup and the fact that the team will have a number of opening batting options, including himself, Rohit Sharma, and KL Rahul. He said: “Since we started working together, we’ve been getting better and better at what we do.
In the meantime, if we’re going to speak about me, I have to keep performing. I am aware that up until the point that I perform, it will be beneficial for me. It not only keeps me on my toes but also keeps my appetite up.”
When Dhawan was asked how he makes sure that his mental health remains in top shape in this age of social media, he responded as follows: “There is trolling on social media platforms. It is now something that is second nature to us, and those with intelligence understand how to make effective use of social media.
They are aware of the kind of conversation that will take place on social media if they are unable to perform. It is all dependent on how well we execute. When you already have the information, there is no use in investigating it further. That is how I get through it all.”
