The series against Sri Lanka would have been an excellent opportunity for Sanju Samson to stake his claim for a regular spot in the Indian Twenty20 International team. However, the wicket-keeper batter not only blew his chance by getting dismissed for just 5 runs in the first match of the series in Mumbai, but he was also ruled out of playing in the rest of the series due to a knee injury.
During the first Twenty20 International that took place in Mumbai at the Wankhede Stadium, Samson injured his left knee while attempting to field a ball close to the boundary ropes.
According to a statement released by the BCCI, “He was transported for scans and a specialist opinion this afternoon in Mumbai by the BCCI Medical Team. He has been recommended to rest and rehabilitation.”
