On Saturday, May 25, the West Indies took on South Africa in the second match of their three-game Twenty20 International series, which was played at Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica.
After winning the toss, the West Indies elected to bat first to start the match. Opening batsman Johnson Charles scored seven runs in nine deliveries, while Brandon King scored 36 runs in 22 deliveries as the team got off to a poor start. Still, the remaining batters were tenacious and performed admirably at bat.
The most significant contribution came from Roston Chase, who scored 67 runs in 38 deliveries without losing, while Kyle Mayers scored 32 runs in 16 deliveries. In 18 balls, Andre Fletcher scored 29 runs, and in 13 deliveries, Romario Shepherd added 26 more runs.
While South Africa’s top wicket-takers were Nqabayomzi Peter, Andile Phehlukwayo, and Lungi Ngidi with two wickets apiece, the West Indies managed to score a total of 207 runs in the first innings of the match. Bjorn Fortuin also claimed a wicket.
The genius of West Indies enabled them to defend the target
South Africa, seeking to chase down a goal of 208 runs, got off to a strong start through the 31 and 41 runs made by openers Reeza Hendricks and Quinton de Kock, respectively. In five overs, they scored eighty-one runs. Matthew Breetzke and Ryan Rickelton scored 12 and 19, respectively.
In addition, while leading the middle order, captain Rassie van der Dussen put another thirty runs on the board. Andile Phehlukwayo and Wiaan Mulder scored three and nine runs, respectively, but were unable to have any effect.

Swash Buckling knock from De-cock. Was in full flow after a poor run of form in IPL. A big knock was up for taking but dismissed while going for a big hit. Good knock nonetheless.#WIvsSA #Decock #SouthAfricaCricket #WestIndiesCricket #HardikPandya #NatashaStankovic

Watching the WI vs SA series and knowing that all the knockout games are in WI gives me great confidence for the T20 WC. Pacers hardly doing anything and the spinners have been really really good. Great signs for the Indian team.

In T20Is
2023 – WI beat SA 2-1
2024 – WI beat SA 2-0 so farThis never happened in Tests and ODIs.

Daily reminder that LSG traded Avesh to RR for Padikkal when they already had two tortoise starters in KL and de Kock. 🤡
