Many of Cricket West Indies’ (CWI) best men’s and women’s cricket players have received multi-year contracts for the first time in the organization’s history. The next two years’ contracts have been granted. The new four-year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the CWI and the West Indies Players Association (WIPA), signed in January 2024, has made the same possible.
It is noteworthy that 15 players for the men’s West Indies have contracts, six of them are multi-year agreements. Moreover, three of the fifteen female players under contract have signed multi-year contracts.
Miles Bascombe, the board’s director of cricket, spoke up in response to the multi-year contracts being given. He praised the players who had signed contracts and discussed how the board had been able to have candid discussions with them.
“CWI has pledged to continue having frank conversations with players while remaining realistic about the reality of the current game. In response, the players have shown clarity, confidence, and dedication on both ends, as evidenced by their acceptance of multi-year contracts. Cricket West Indies cited Miles Bascombe as stating, “I’d like to congratulate the entire contracted cohort on their performances in the last assessment period and I look forward to them building on those in the next one.”
