The ODI and T20I squads for the forthcoming away series against Sri Lanka, which begins on October 13, have been announced by Cricket West Indies (CWI). The selectors have picked a few uncapped players who impressed in the last Caribbean Premier League (CPL), therefore the senior players—Nicolaus Pooran, Andre Russell, Shimron Hetmyer, and Akeal Hosein—opted out of the series.
Following their outstanding performances in the ongoing CPL, Terrance Hinds, who took eight wickets in as many games, and Shamar Springer, who took twelve in nine games, have been added to the T20I series. After a frantic CPL, head coach Daren Sammy revealed that the senior cricket players wished to withdraw from the series. A few of them are undergoing rehabilitation because they are also dealing with injuries.
“With multiple senior players out for various reasons, such as injury rehabilitation and rest needs, the Sri Lankan tour provides us with an opportunity to evaluate guys in diverse circumstances and test our depth. We have faith in the team’s capacity to fight hard against Sri Lanka,” Cricket West Indies cited Sammy as saying.
Conversely, Jewel Andrew has merited a call-up to the West Indies ODI team for the first time. With an average of 55, the 17-year-old has scored 165 runs in just three List-A games. Sammy gave Jewel an explanation for his inclusion, stating that Jewel has earned his spot on the team and that the intention is to provide bright young cricketers with opportunity.

“This tour provides a great chance to assess tactics and provide opportunities to up-and-coming talent as we continue to develop our ODI team. Young players like Jewel Andrew, who has proven to be a promising potential for the future, excite us, Sammy remarked.
