With six victories in as many games, the India cricket team is comfortably leading the ODI World Cup 2023 after destroying their opponents thus far.
Both the bowlers and the batting group have performed admirably. The previous two-time winners had just a few more boxes to check. With the exception of his perfect half-century against Pakistan, Mumbai’s batter Shreyas Iyer has not been able to live up to his promise in the tournament, which is one of the uncommon concerns for India. Iyer has received scores of 0, 25*, 53*, 19, 33, and 4 in the six games.
When Hardik Pandya recovers from injury, Misbah-ul-Haq said that Iyer could have to make way. The former captain of Pakistan also called attention to the technical shortcomings of the right-handed hitter when facing short balls.
“Hardik Pandya, who has recovered, must also return. I believe that KL Rahul at No. 5 is too late since Day 1. He is a top-notch talent and ought to bat fourth. Suryakumar Yadav might bat sixth and Jadeja seventh once Hardik returns. Then, it would be harder for him (Iyer) to be selected. Iyer, who just achieved a century against Australia, is highly regarded and has amassed runs. However, he generally has an average of 19–20 against quick bowling, and he struggles to find the short ball. All clubs will take advantage of your weakness when it becomes apparent,” Misbah stated on A Sports.
“He anticipates the short ball, and he frequently takes the shot even when faced with short balls that are difficult to pull, like as the one against England. You are therefore in danger since you are overanalyzing the short ball. Look at his forefoot. It doesn’t move again after the first movement. He’s also not in a position to play short ball. Furthermore, he makes no attempt to evade the short ball,” he continued.
Ishan Kishan is not performing, hence Shreyas Iyer must: Wasim Akram
Wasim Akram referred to Shreyas, 28, as India “weakest link” and agreed with Misbah’s assessment of the actor. The great pacer believed that with Ishan Kishan, who is waiting in the wings after a brilliant half-century against Pakistan in the 2023 Asia Cup, Shreyas will have to take advantage of his opportunity as soon as possible.
“Yes, he must play as he is a left-hander and Ishan Kishan is sitting out. Recall that he forged a friendship with Hardik Pandya in their opening Asia Cup match. so that Akram could bat in the middle order.
