After losing to Afghanistan and India in the Super 8, Australia was eliminated from the T20 World Cup 2024. Many were surprised by their loss to Afghanistan, since many predicted a semifinal run. Mark Waugh has called for a complete team revamp after Australia’s World Cup performance.
Since winning their first T20 World Cup in 2021, Australia has struggled at the showpiece event. at 2022, they lost at the group stage and in 2023, in the Super 8. Mark Waugh said the young guns and selection procedure should be considered given their firepower and skill.
Twenty20 cricket needs a rethink. Our skill in the squad and around it should allow us to do better. Many of our good players missed that tournament. Waugh told Fox Sports that Jake Fraser-McGurk should have been in the squad because he was ready, locked, and loaded if needed.

My opinion is to keep one coach and distribute the workload. I value messaging continuity but also shifting priorities. Priorities change, albeit some won’t appreciate me expressing this. There’s no way to please everyone. Which format gets priority with split coaches? McDonald said having one selection panel and coach will help set priorities and manage the squad.
