For the 2024 Women’s Caribbean Premier League (WCPL), India internationals Jemimah Rodrigues and Shikha Pandey have joined the Trinbago Knight Riders. These two will be the Knight Riders’ foreign players this season, joining Meg Lanning and Jess Jonassen, all of whom are Australian.
All seven of the 2024 WCPL matches are slated to take place at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba, Trinidad, from August 21 to August 29.
I’m visiting the WCPL for the first time. I’ve played a lot of cricket for India in the Caribbean, but I’m particularly thrilled to be playing for the Knight Riders in the WCPL, Rodrigues stated, per ESPNcricinfo.
“We’re all aware of their worldwide legacy. Even the 2022 champion TKR Women’s squad is a very proud group. With some of the greatest players in the world competing, I think this tournament will also be a great warm-up for us before the Women’s World T20 in October,” she continued.
Five of the players who played for the Knight Riders in 2023 will be returning, including Deandra Dottin, Shamila Connell, Kycia Knight, Zaida James, and Samara Ramnath. There are six additional roster spaces to be filled, and the individuals chosen for these positions will be announced during the July WCPL draft.
Venky Mysore, CEO of Knight Riders Group, stated in a statement, “We are very excited to be able to retain the core of our local Caribbean players and sign up four world-renowned overseas players for this year’s Women’s CPL.”
It’s wonderful that Deandra Dottin is leading the team once more. till the team’s founding year, she has been an amazing leader, having been an important player and captain till our 2022 championship win, he continued.
In addition, Venky thanked the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for permitting the Indian team to compete in the Caribbean series and expressed his happiness to have the team for the following season.
“Shikha Pandey and Jimmy Rodrigues will significantly raise the calibre of the competition, and we are grateful to the BCCI for making it possible for them to play in the WCPL for the first time. He said, “We look forward to welcoming them all in TKR’s red and black this August. The addition of these two big Indian names, along with super stars Meg Lanning and Jess Jonassen, should excite cricket enthusiasts around the world.”
