Alyssa Healy, the temporary captain of Australia, has agreed to a three-year deal with the Sydney Sixers of the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) in advance of the ninth season of the league. Notably, the lucrative T20 tournament will start on October 19 with the Sixers taking on the Melbourne Stars in the opening match.
Alyssa Healy original contract was slated to expire in 2022, but she chose to sign a new one that would extend through the conclusion of the 2025–26 season, ensuring that she would continue to play an important role in the system.
Alyssa Healy feels’reinvigorated’ and has a new perspective on the game after serving as the interim captain of the national side during the Women’s Ashes.
We simply thought about how long we wanted the deal to last. The best part of the circumstance is that I had the thrilling chance to lead the team in the Ashes. It doesn’t matter if something will actually happen in the future or not. Healy was reported by ESPNcricinfo as saying, “It has reinvigorated the way I think about the game and the way I am enjoying it.”
“World Cups and excursions to Bangladesh will make for an intriguing next year. I still enjoy representing Australia, but playing in the WBBL is fantastic. It’s prompted me to consider what I require personally. However, as a captain, you have no time for thought. I forgot to consider what I need to do to ensure performance when you were preoccupied with the game and strategy. It has inspired me to consider how I can improve my performance,” she continued.
Due to Meg Lanning‘s injury, the 33-year-old will serve as captain of the squad during the next T20I and ODI home series against the West Indies. Meanwhile, the Sixers selected players like Chloe Tryon and Jess Kerr in the just completed WBBL draft. Notably, Ellyse Perry renewed her contract with the Sixers for two more years and will continue to serve as the team’s head coach in the upcoming season.
Alyssa Healy, Jade Allen, Maitlan Brown, Erin Burns, Lauren Cheatle, Ash Gardner, Emma Hughes, Jess Kerr, Kate Peterson, Ellyse Perry (c), and Chloe Tryon make up the Sydney Sixers WBBL 9 squad.
