After a devastating defeat to Royal Challengers Bengaluru on May 18, MS Dhoni touched down in his native Ranchi. Chennai Super Kings lost, which meant they would not advance to the Indian Premier League 2024 playoffs. The next day, May 19, Dhoni and his family landed at the Ranchi airport after departing Bengaluru.

CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad invited RCB to bat first after winning the toss. The hosts amassed a formidable 218 on board, thanks to a half-century from Faf du Plessis and a strong blow from Virat Kohli. Even though they dropped early wickets, the visitors managed to stay in the match. They needed 17 runs to go to the postseason and 34 runs to win in the last over. With only 7 runs conceded, Yash Dayal kept his composure to lead the RCB home. Matthew Hayden aptly summed up the significance of the season for Dhoni.
Indeed, I guess the thing you don’t want to see as an athlete nearing the conclusion of your career is diminishing returns, whether or not that’s the last phase of his career. First of all, he is the Thala of the Chennai Super Kings, a legendary leader. Hayden told Star Sports, “This is telling me that nothing here is about becoming anything other than first place.”

“With all of his cricket knowledge, he is desperately using his brains.” Naturally, there is power, and MS Dhoni has always had it. At this point in the inning, he has always hit balls. You can see how players are able to hit it up front. However, it’s quite difficult to smash balls at the back,” he continued.
In Bengaluru, MS Dhoni nearly capsized CSK’s ship.
On Saturday night, the former captain of CSK was happy. He came out to bat after CSK lost six wickets. He hit several opportune boundaries while raking in the necessary run rate. On the first ball, he hit a 110-meter six, giving him the 17 he needed to qualify for the last over. However, Yash Dayal recovered, picking him up on the very next ball.
